Sulli / Bilic on today's game and next season
|
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/05/19/premier-leagues-meaningless-final-day-still-worth-100m/
Four teams will also play for up to £11.4 million, including West Ham United and Burnley, who meet at Turf Moor. The two sides will finish the season between 10th and 16th, and 11th and 17th, respectively.
With all clubs guaranteed an estimated £85 million each from the bulk of the Premier League’s income, as well as around £1 million for every live televised match in which they have featured this season, that £11.4 million figure may appear relatively trivial.
But West Ham’s co-chairman, David Sullivan, left no doubt about the importance of that extra money to his side. “It’s vitally important,” he told The Daily Telegraph. “We budget to finish 10th. If we finish lower than 10th, we have a hole in our finances which impacts on our ability to buy players and pay players’ wages next season.”
http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/slaven-bilic-targets-topsix-finish-for-west-ham-next-season-35736242.html
Bilic said: "The ambitions are - the minimum (is) to finish in the top 10, but with the hope or plan to break into the top eight, top seven or top six.
"It's going to be very hard, you saw last year that it is possible but you have to tick all of the boxes, you have to have a good transfer window, stay out of injuries and we settle down in the stadium.
"It's not going to be blooming and glooming all of the time but we feel it's our home. We had some really good performances and some really bad performances there. This should all help us being better next season, knowing that all the other teams will do the same."
The Croatian's future has come under scrutiny in recent months but Bilic feels that his current squad will only benefit from their struggles.
When asked if he has enjoyed this season, the West Ham manager answered: "Make no mistake, I enjoyed last season more than this one.
" You know it's not enjoyable during that (tough) period but after that you become stronger, not only as a manager or not only as an individual player but you are building the character of the team.
"We are very motivated for this game, we want to finish on a positive but yes I am glad (the season is coming to an end), we all need a rest. I am relieved because we have many, many injuries.
"We need a break and rest to prepare for next season but then again, on the other hand, we can talk about that on Monday because I am very, very motivated for this game."

I'm not sure you could describe valencia as penny pinching, he was signed in the same window as sakho, who cost around 4m. i se you didnt mention sakho as a penny pinching signing because obviously he did well straight away. as always, its fine to sign cheaper players when they work out, but when they dont then its easy to criticise isnt it?

One sticking block is our owners have previous and we should all know better.
We know that after everything they have said we COULD spend 90m on real quality.
Difference is we try penny pinching on every, single, occasion and then wonder why we get lumbered with a Calleri/Tore/Valencia/Zaza.. the list is endless.
My guessing is we will spend half of the 90m in total and that Payet money, TV money, league table money, new stadium/higher ticket revenue money will magically dissapear.

£90m is very realistic - it seems a low estimate to me. If you add our expenditure on transfers last year to the £25m+ windfall gained from the Payet sale it totals to ~£90m already. And it's reasonable to assume that figure would increase anyway with the higher TV deal and the increasing gate receipts.

Unfortunately, I don't mate.
It is ambitious but after all the owners spouting about the money the new stadium will generate, TV money, the Payet money, the money we could get from selling last summer signings, along with new merchandising, season ticket money and finishing 11th as they spoke about in their "budget" I don't think the 90m is that unrealistic in this day and age after everything they spoke about.
Putting that money where their mouth is and actually giving Mancini confidence is another thing.

And you think Mancini will come? And the owners will fork out 90m?

Unpopular opinion I know, but I think Antonio has to take a lot of the blame - he played well there the previous season and was willing to put in the effort when breaking into the team - then he starting believing his own hype and played like a prick because he thought he should be played elsewhere.

Boogers - He tried something (because of injuries and suspensions) and in the end it didn't work out. He changed it back.
I think people proper over react about it to be honest. I remember reading stuff like he "DAMAGED THE PLAYER" etc. Well Antonio has got in 3 (I think) England squads under Bilic, and has signed 3 contracts under him.
As far as I can see, there's nothing really to see?

I'll be honest One Mac i don't even think playing Antonio worked last season and no one wanted him to start at RB this season. Bilic totally lost the plot there

Explain?

Slaven Biic, as expected, to remain as West Ham manager after meeting with the club's board. More on @TeleFootball soon

As Alex said, Bilic admitted that they'd been complacent this season.

Mancini. Give him money he will come. 90 mil transfer fund.
90mil in this day and age isn't a lot. With the new stadium (after the owners telling us it will make us compete), Payet money, money we get from selling the deadwood players here now, still should get some good figures back, higher ticket sales, merchandise etc., TV money windfall, finishing 11th (Sulli was bigging it up in his "budget" interview.
But that's just my opinion. I don't see that happening but we can all dream.

How can we not be a passing side? I wonder what people are watching??
We are so much a passing team that noble spent half the season turning back on the half way line because he couldn't find a pass rather than boot it long over the top.
We "were" a counter attacking side when we had Sakho and Valencia last season because you need pace to do that. Something caroll or Callieri don't have.
I agree that the caroll / shakho thing should have been foreseen. However I think he tried by getting Zaza and ayew. Ayew got injured and Zaza was shit. Callieri and fletcher weren't meant to be 1st choice anything this year. Also from what I've seen of calieri and fletcher I can see why he chooses Callieri as he can at least hold the ball up and gets into to better positions than fletcher. (Even though his finishing is poor).
We play nothing like allardyce football now. We may get similar league positions but when we work, the style of play is way different to Sams. We played two creative players in midfield until payet went, has same ever done anything like that on purpose?

As for this give Bilic half a season idea it's plainly nonsense on stilts.
Agreed. If they don't think he's good enough to have a full, successful season then let him go now. Else he's automatically under loads of pressure and there's no point in getting to Christmas, with us doing terribly and then going 'oh well, we gave him one last chance'.
I know no managers job is safe and all carry that weight of responsibility and pressure but that's what they get paid for. As a board you need to openly show confidence in your manager, none of this 'yeh he's alright but if he hasn't done anything by Christmas we're gonna let him go'. Doesn't speak volumes does it.
unless we sign some real proven talent then the summer signings will be a gamble and we may not know until the beginning of the season whether or not they're any good. But I think that's where Bilic's job decision really swings.

Unless the owners land a really big managerial fish, who probably would not come unless there was a guarantee of funds for several special players, I cannot see the point of terminating the Bilic contract a season early.

Also if we take aside the Liverpool game we had 3 clean sheets and sorted out the defence which seemed to players were finally responding to. So was it
DDDWLW. for a team possible in relegation trouble I think things have been sorted out.
Against Liverpool what can I say. They are a top 4 side with their first XI. We had 6 first team players out. They are fighting for a CL place and we had far less to play for.
Add ti that the total miss justice when they got their 3rd. Could have been 1-2 not 0-3.

We should not underestimate the effectiveness of the formation change with 3 / 5 at the back. Shame it took Bilic so long to see it and change it.
Anyway, my instinct is that he should be on his way but must also admit with our owners and propensity to screw things up, not sure who else we to bring in.
Give him until Xmas and hope to be surprised by our transfer business and results. No point moaning on about it ( although I probably still will when / if we start the season badly ) nothing will change.
Avoid relegation / mid table the limit to my ambition. I was duped into the new stadium / new era / next level nonsense. Even then I was just looking for a team that I did not have to worry about getting relegated every season. That's our next level IMO.

Hammers1993 2:41 Mon May 22 Re: Sulli / Bilic on today's game and next season
This site is full of a lot of deluded people I have to say.
Look at that guy trying to defend the Antonio decision.
Why should he have not tried that? He done it because of injuries and suspensions last season and it went ok. Tried it this season, it didn't work and stopped doing it. Is that not the sign of a good manager? ------------------------------ One okay result against a poor Burnley side and they forget all about his many many mistakes and faults he has.
Not sure anyone is saying he didn't make mistakes? Name me a manager that doesn't? ------------------------------------- Has everyone forgot the shambles last week losing 4-0 when it could have been 8!?
I don't think anyone has forgot we lost to Liverpool. What's your point here? ------------------------------------ Both City batterings and let's not forget celebrating the post as MOTM against Hull.
Who celebrated a post? What are you talking about? ---------------------------------------- Or shall we not talk about his persistence with the very obvious shit Calleri, or his eternity to drop Randolph?
Our 2 first choice strikers have been out for long periods. When that happens the Manager will normally try the next one in line?
I agree about Randolph. He should never have been number 1 in my opinion. Once again though, he's rectified it. I'd say that's a sign of a good manager. -------------------------------- Maybe let's ignore the players out of position and not signing a right back in January after falling out with yet another player?
Why ignore it? Who in particular? We have 2 right backs currently in the first team squad.

Just think, if WBA had not been allowed to score that last minute equaliser at our place those two points would have had us finishing in eighth place. The also rans, outside the top seven, were falling over themselves to avoid winning games in the last quarter of the season.

So who would this be? What realistic target you have to replace Bilic?
